Happy Birthday to me

No stitching today.

My sister shouted us to lunch at Spinnakers which is situated on the end of the mole at Hillary's Boat Harbour. Great position - we were seated right at the windows so we could watch the passing procession of boats and the fumbling attempts of some boatees to pull up to the jetty for fuel.

The food was excellent, though as usual far too big a serving. I had a tasting plate which I could easily have shared, since there were two of everything. Somehow I managed to finish it though.

My pump finished by 2.30 so off to the hospital for disconnection. The Ivy Suite was closed because it's Good Friday, so I had to go through General Admissions and was then taken to the Cancer Ward. Quick and easy once I got there and I am always pleased to get rid of it.

We are now sampling a bottle of Moet which someone gave to Kevin for HIS birthday back in November. Not sure whether we will need any dinner.

Fiddling with food

Not much fibre today, even of the dietary kind. I spent most of the morning making finger food for Kevin's 70th birthday party at the end of the month.

Today's achievement - all mini-quiches: 36 crab, coconut and lime, 21 sundried tomato and feta, 12 cheese and prosciutto. We HAD to eat 3 of the crab ones - they browned too much on the bottom and would not reheat successfully. It's true!

Helen delivered three bags as her contribution - two lots of Thai chicken pies and some pork spare ribs. I plan to make some marinated chicken wings and possibly more sausage rolls (I have already made 8 dozen, but they are only bite size). Along with some commercial party pies and cocktail frankfurts I think we have the savoury aspect covered. The freezer is filling up.

Since it is an afternoon event (afternoon tea?) I probably need to consider some sweet bits and possibly some sandwiches. We went shopping at a big barn liquor outlet last week and the drinks are under control.

I need to revise my lists.

Mother's Day

Helen treated us to a wonderful lunch at Sandrini in Fremantle. We had a table outside and were able to watch the passing parade. It's ages since we've been in Fremantle on a Sunday and we were struck by just how busy the South Terrace/Market Street/Collie Street triangle was.

I got a flower too. She made these with her pre-primary class. The flower itself is an outline of the child's hand on light card. I can't remember her own teachers coming up with such innovative ideas - I seem to remember jars covered in glitter and similar stuff, nothing so simple and restrained.

I love it. Thanks, Helen.
